My wife and I were picking strawberries at a farm in Michigan.
A friend named Ruth Skelton and her sister, Better Alfred, were also there. Ruth was humming a tune I had heard when I was a boy.
I asked, “Do you know the words to that song?”
She said, “Yes.”
We made a deal: I agreed to pick strawberries for her while she sang the song, “May I Sleep in Your Barn Tonight, Mister?”
One of our forefathers coined the phrase “right and left wings” as it relates to politics. In this excellent expression of visual imagery, he helped us place a very complex concept into a working reality.
There seems to be a natural phenomenon related to people when they form into groups, regardless of the purpose. Within a certain sampling, whether it’s hundreds or thousands, a group will always divide into moderate, conservative, and liberal. Thus a group will always form into center and left and right wings.
Adam was created with a heavenly (God like) nature and an earthly (man like) nature.
The one is nourished by a relationship with God. The other is earth bound and is nourished by the physical essentials of life.
The Study of Earthly Man
Science has discovered more and more complexity to earthly man. There are hundreds if not thousands of fields of science which have arisen in response to discoveries related to the physical person and his adjustment to the universe, to mankind and of his physical nature in maintaining health and vitality.
The most recent, and to date the most complex, is the DNA profile of human beings, reflecting each individual’s basic structure.
The Parable of the Sower presents six levels of response to the presentation of the word of God. The response ranges from zero to a return of one hundred fold or ten thousand percent.
The reason for such a dramatically different response to the same invitation relates to the wide range of difference in the persons exposed to the presentation of a message.
The human heart (mind-emotions) is compared to soil in its receptivity to seed. Words are the seed of the mind. A cluster of intelligent words becomes an idea. An idea is a concept which influences our behavior.
When our spirit soars it makes contact with another person’s spirit and somehow magic occurs. This magic element excites us to high energy and lofty thoughts. This magic takes place in everyday situations as well as religious ones. But in order for the event to occur, each party must be willing to believe in the other and cooperate with the spiritual elements that are present.
Doubt and skepticism keep such meeting earth-bound no matter how bright the individuals.
